Az egyik legismertebb jazzmuzsikus, Chick Corea egy élő legenda. A 22 Grammy-díjjal rendelkező billentyűs, zeneszerző és zenekarvezető 63 jelöléssel a negyedik legtöbbször jelölt művész a Grammy történetében. A hazánkban is méltán népszerű művész otthonosan mozog különböző zenei stílusokban, legyen az akár avant-garde, bebop, jazz-rock fúzió, vagy gyermekdalok. A kamara- és szimfonikus művek is ismerős terep számára.
2011-ben, a muzsikus 70. születésnapját nagyszabású koncertsorozattal ünnepelték a tengerentúlon. A koncerteknek, a jazz műfajon belül ikonikus helyszínnek számító Blue Note Jazz Club adott otthont. Most az ott rögzített felvételekből – a Concord Music Group jóvoltából - készült egy három CD-t tartalmazó kiadvány, ami a The Musician címet kapta. A kiadvány felvételein a műfaj sztárjainak a sokaságával találkozhatunk. Némi túlzással azt is állíthatjuk, hogy a születésnapi koncertsorozaton mindenki ott volt, aki a jazz műfajban számít. A névsor valóban impozáns: John McLaughlin, Bobby McFerrin, Gary Burton, Marcus Roberts, Wynton Marsalis, Herbie Hancock és sokan mások.
Az igen gazdag repertoárt felmutató kiadvány Corea eddigi pályafutásának egyfajta keresztmetszete. Habár, a felvételek döntő többsége „kötelező” elemként, stúdió változatban megtalálható minden nagyobb lemezgyűjteményben, joggal odakívánkozik a koncertanyag is. Hiszen, az élő anyag mindig magában hordozza a pillanat varázsát.
